U.S. Support for Flood Relief
July 30, 2004
NEW DELHI -- The United States Embassy announced today it is providing USD 150,000 (Rupees 69.3 lakhs) to the International Federation of Red Cross and Crescent Societies to support relief work in the flood-affected states of Bihar and Assam.
The funds, which will be used to meet the immediate needs of the most seriously affected people, will supplement the substantial resources being provided by the central and state governments, local groups and other international organizations involved in the flood response.
As part of its regular program, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is collaborating with India to share best practices in the area of disaster management.
