U.S. Consulate Plans Directory of Indian Representatives of American Companies

August 25, 2004

Ahmedabad, August 18: "If you represent a US Company, please present yourself to the US Consulate." That's the simple message that the US Trade Commissioner Mr. Richard Rothman is bringing for Gujarati businessmen when he visits Ahmedabad August 30 and 31 to launch a unique program of the US Commercial Service.

The U.S. Commercial Service, an agency of the United States government, is offering a program to Gujarati businessmen representing US companies in India, to help increase sales of their products and services in India.

This initiative is in the form of a program called the Single Company Promotion (SCP). The purpose of SCP is to help Indian companies that represent US products to leverage their brand credibility and to reach out in partnership with US Consulate to a wider prospect base.
In addition to this, the US Commercial Service is publishing a directory of Indian companies representing US companies in India, which would include all the registrants for the SCP at no cost.

Mr. Rothman said, "We are launching this program first in Gujarat because Gujarat has the required industrial depth and maturity, and it has a great tradition and legacy of commerce that is virtually unparalleled in India. Moreover, its economic growth is comparable to the more developed regions of the world."

He remarked, "Don't be apart, be a partner of the US Consulate. So, if you represent a US Company, then present yourself to the US Commercial Service under the SCP Program and you get: co-branded events, joint mailings, increased credibility, and increased sales."

SCP offers partnered sales promotion through joint mailings as well as co-branded events. "The US Commercial Service works closely with the Indian companies to identify a potential client database through joint mailings, as well as co-branded events with detailed involvement," said Rothman.

Gujarat-based companies and businessmen that would like to attend Mr. Rothman's seminar on SCP and be registered in the directory of US representative companies should contact him on: fax 022-22623850 or email at Mumbai.Office.Box@mail.doc.gov
