American Information Resource Center (AIRC) Traveling Exhibition in Hyderabad

Hyderabad August 27: - The Public Affairs Office of the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai, will organize the American Information Resource Center (AIRC) Traveling Exhibition at B. M. Birla Science Center, Adarsh Nagar, Hyderabad 500 463. Dr. J. Anantha Swamy, Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University, Hyderabad will inaugurate the exhibition at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, August 30, 2004. The exhibition will be kept open to the public from 12:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on August 30, and 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. on August 31, 2004.
The exhibition will feature a computer Power Point presentation on the resources and services of the AIRC along with a book exhibition, video corner and poster shows - "Through Artists' Eyes: The American Space Programs and U. S. Elections - Getting Involved." AIRC staff will demonstrate how patrons outside Chennai may access the Center's extensive resources via mail, telephone, fax, email and the Internet. On-the-spot membership enrollment for both individuals and institutions will be offered at the exhibition.
AIRC provides South India with the latest and most accurate information about the U.S. government and its policies besides in-depth information on American values, history, culture and institutions. The center's collection is strong in social sciences, government and politics, economics and international relations, American history and literature, and American management practices. The holdings consist of over 14,000 volumes, subscriptions to 136 periodicals in print, several CD-ROM and online databases, and more than 300 videotapes.
The exhibition will also provide information on US higher education. The United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) will participate in the exhibition. A staffer from USEFI will answer queries relating to higher education in the United States.
USEFI was established in 1950 through an exchange agreement between India and the United States to administer Fulbright fellowships fostering exchange between Indian and American scholars. In addition, USEFI is a source of information on higher education in the United States. USEFI provides educational advising services through an information desk, a reference library, group and individual advising sessions, administration of standardized tests and organization of or participation in U.S. university fairs. Separate group advising sessions provide information on U.S. universities and their application procedures, student visas, pre-departure planning and specific fields of study.
