The American Library

Enrollment

The American Library offers local and postal membership to individuals and institutions in North India. Members are entitled to borrow four books for four weeks and two videos and two back issues of periodicals for one week.

Individual Membership

Open to anyone 16 years of age or older. Applicant must present appropriate photo identification (e.g. driving license, passport, identity card) with proof of current residence.

Institutional Membership

Open to any commercial, educational or research organization in Northern India. Each institution receives five borrower cards to borrow books and videocassettes.

Distance Membership

Open to residents of Northern India. Books are sent by registered post and the borrowers should return them by registered post at their own expense. Subject bibliographies of titles available in the Library are provided on request

LIBRARY MEMBERSHIP FEES (ENROLLMENT PROCESSING FEES)

Individual: Rs. 400/- for one year
Rs. 700/- for two years

Non-profit Institution: Rs. 2,000/- for one year
Rs. 3,000/- for two years
Other Institutions: Rs. 4,000/- for one year
Rs. 7,000/- for two years

Fee can be paid in cash or by demand draft drawn in favor of the American Embassy, New Delhi. We cannot accept checks. 


MEMBERSHIP PRIVILEGES

  • Access to Reading Room with over 175 print journals
  • Access to CD-ROM and Online Databases
  • Free Internet Access
  • Workstations for Microsoft Office Applications
  • Reference and Information Service by professional staff via telephone, e-mail, fax, letter and in person
  • Borrowing and book reservation privileges. Members are entitled to borrow books, back files of periodicals and videos
  • Facility for group or individual orientations to library resources
  • Video collection
  • Participation in programs by invitation

MEMBERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

The Borrower's card is not transferable. A member is responsible for all material borrowed on his/her card. Loss of membership card or change of address should be reported immediately to avoid any misuse. A duplicate card will be issued on payment of Rs.25/-. The Library reserves the right to restrict admission and cancel the enrollment of any person who does not comply with regulations. 

FINE: Re. 1 per day, per book after the due date. Repeated late return of books may result in loss of borrowing privileges.

LOST/DAMAGED BOOKS: Lost or damaged books must be paid for at cost of replacement or as determined by the library.
