January 30, 2006 (Hindi)
NEW DELHI - U.S. Ambassador David C. Mulford today complimented Indians for their love of books and the nation's publishing industry for its dynamism. While touring the American Center's booth at the World Book Fair in Pragati Maidan, he said he was pleased to see "how much Indians -- young and old -- value books and like to read."
Visiting the U.S. booth, which highlights several U.S. Embassy information resource products and services, the Ambassador said, "The American Center libraries, book re-print program and SPAN magazine are good examples of effective resources through which Indians are able to learn more about the U.S. and issues of mutual interest."
The Ambassador said he was pleased to see so many visitors at the American Center booth. He noted that there was strong interest in the American Center's efforts to disseminate a wide range of useful information to the Indian public.
Ambassador Mulford also stopped by the booth of several publishers and browsed through their publications. He said he enjoyed his visit to the book fair because it gave him insight into Indians' love of the printed word and the vibrancy of the Indian publishing industry.
While at the American Center booth, the Ambassador presented prizes to several winners of the general knowledge quiz on the United States. He also viewed a new video presentation of scenes of U.S. attractions.
