Statement by U.S. Ambassador David C. Mulford
on the May 23, 2004 Terrorist Attack in Jammu and Kashmir

May 24, 2004

New Delhi -- I condemn the brutal terrorist attack that occurred on Jammu-Srinagar Highway on Sunday. As the Bush Administration has said many times, there can be no justification for such acts. The Global War on Terrorism will not be won until such atrocities end against all countries. The United States is committed to the permanent end of terrorism against India. As we have said repeatedly, violence will not resolve the problems of Jammu and Kashmir. I offer my sympathy for the victims and look forward to the terrorists being brought swiftly to justice.
