The American Center’s Bowling Blowout
September 22, 2011: The Bowling Blowout was a fun bowling and trivia event for college and university students organized by the American Center at the PVR Blu-O Bowling Center in Ambience Mall Vasant Kunj on September 22, 2011. This inter-college event allowed teams to display their bowling skills, answer trivia questions about American culture, and interact with young American diplomats.

Women in Science Workshop
September 12, 2011: The United States Embassy, in cooperation with the Indian Department of Science & Technology, hosted the third annual “Women in Science” workshop on September 12, 2011 at New Delhi’s Constitution Club. The workshop brought together more than 150 outstanding women scientists and innovators from both the U.S. and India to share their experiences, and to discuss the social challenges and opportunities facing them today. The event also featured an interactive video conference with NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, an Indian-American who shared stories of her pioneering achievements in outer space.

Independence Day bash at the American Center
July 2, 2011: Hundreds of young people rocked the American Center in celebration of U.S. Independence Day. Event highlights included a laser show depicting iconic American images set to music, Dances of America, a medley of American dance styles including Broadway and Hip Hop, and DJ Manish spinning a mix of Hollywood and Bollywood hits.

The Life of Form in Indian Sculpture through Carmel Berkson’s Eyes
June 16-28, 2011: The American Center in association with the AIIS presented an exhibition of photographs by Carmel Berkson, an American sculptor, photographer and scholar who has spent the last 40 years of her life in India. The exhibition presented Carmel Berkson’s views on creative processes of making ancient and medieval stone sculptures.

Preserving India's cultural heritage and landmarks
See some of the wonders of Indian culture preserved with support from the U.S. Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation Program (AFCP). There have been more than 10 AFCP projects in the past 10 years for conservation/restoration and documentation of India's rich and diverse cultural heritage.

Book Launch: Skunk Girl
April 21, 2011: U.S. Fulbrighter Sheba Karim discussed her new young adult novel, Skunk Girl at the American Center. Live from New Delhi, she read from her book and talked about how protagonist Nina Khan dealt with life as the daughter of Pakistani immigrants growing up in rural America. The show also featured Indian blogger and novelist Meenakshi Reddy Madhavan and TV news correspondent Mohsin Mughal.

Exhibition: Raveling Texts
May 12-27, 2011: An exhibit, Raveling Text, was opened on Thursday, May 12 at the American Center featuring the works of three American artists – Kevin McCarthy, Eva Gustafson and Danielle Smith-Llera. After the opening, the crowd was treated to an electro-fusion pop performance by the band SPACE, performing for the first time at the American Center.

Project Bandaloop Performs in Delhi
November 26, 2010: American dance troupe Project Bandaloop performed an aerial dance hanging from the metal and glass LIC building. Organized by the American Center, this is the troupe's first tour of India.

Rock with the Presidents Champions
October 20, 2010: Ambassador Roemer congratulates the winners of our Rock with the Presidents trivia quiz, Indraprastha College for Women, shown here showcasing their new iPods! We rocked with the Presidents again at the American Center Library Oct. 26.

Bradley Googins and Gurcharan Das Hold The Great Debate
July 20, 2010: The American Center hosted "The Great Debate: Corporations have Social Responsibilities. Yes or no?" in collaboration with the Times Foundation. American expert on CSR Bradley Googins debated with author Gurcharan Das while a live audience evaluated their arguments. The debate is shown on ET Now.

American Library Launches Hindi Book Collection
August 6, 2010: Now readers can enjoy books by and about famous Americans in Hindi at the American Library. Inaugurated by Minister Counselor for Public Affairs Michael Pelletier, more than fifty volumes, including translations of "The Audacity of Hope" and "It takes a Village," are available to the public with the launch of the new collection on August 6, 2010.

Celebration of American Independence at the American Center
July 3, 2010: Visitors danced to American music played by Indian rock bands 'Tough on Tobacco' and 'Nashville Freight' as they celebrated America's Independence Day at the American Center on July 3. Pizza, ice cream and posing for pictures with a cutout of President Obama were all part of the fun.

American Center Observes Pride Month
In observance of June 2010 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month, the American Center and the YP Foundation organized a screening of ‘Prodigal Sons’ and a discussion on gender identity and sexuality on June 11. The American Consulate Chennai organized a webchat on ‘Coming out in a culturally diverse society’.
