Effective November 26, 2008, approved DHS petition required to apply for R-1 visas
Effective November 26, 2008, all applicants who apply for a nonimmigrant religious (R-1) visa are required to have an approved I-129 petition from the Department of Homeland Security.

R-1 visa applicants who have already scheduled a visa appointment at the U.S. Embassy, New Delhi should reschedule for when they have a valid petition. Information on rescheduling a visa appointment is available at www.vfs-usa.co.in.
