The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi is seeking an individual for the position of Computer Operator (LAN) in the Information Management Office (IMO).

SALARY:               EFM/NOR: Grade: FP-6*
      Ordinarily Resident: Grade: FSN-8*

BASIC FUNCTIONS OF POSITION

  • • Responsible for trouble free operations of the mission’s IT infrastructure.
    • Under the direct supervision of the Supervisory LAN Administrator, oversee the daily operation of an integrated multi OS LAN, with 30 servers and over 700 users.
    • Primary service provider of/to mission critical IT functions and data applications of various sections.
    • Work as a member of the operations staff for the set up, relocation and maintenance of Embassy’s information technology equipment and infrastructure.
    • Maintain the operational constancy of the telecommunications links from New Delhi to Washington, Consulates, and the high-speed link to the Embassy’s Internet Service Provider.
    • Responsible for implementing all security standards, regulations and guidelines.
    • Configure, install and maintain off the shelf and local PC applications on the servers and client PCs.
    • Install and terminate fiber optical cable runs, ensuring that full and clear terminations are made.
    • Perform full and incremental backups of various systems.
    • Provide help desk service spanning two overlapping shifts five days a week for all Mission personnel.
    • Responsible for asset management and technical responsibility for the set up, relocation and maintenance of the Chancery and Annex Digital Video Conference (DVC).
    • Suggest various options to enhance the Web page.
    • Implement training programs for both American and FSN personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

1. Bachelor’s degree plus thorough knowledge of Network Architecture in terms of LAN, WAN, Packet Routing and CISCO Switches. AN MCSE or MCP is required.
2. Minimum two years of progressively responsible experience, which must thoroughly cover Local Area Network and Wide Area telecommunication.
3. Level IV (fluency) in English.
4. Technical knowledge of hardware capabilities, computer operation procedures, computer programs on a variety of platforms, ability to distinguish normal processing problems on a variety of platforms, and ability to distinguish normal processing problems and equipment problems.
5. Ability to perform hardware setups, operational adjustments, minor LAN and PC maintenance, and to provide accurate descriptions of operations hurdles to senior computer staff.

DEFINITIONS

  1. EFM:  US Citizen spouse or US citizen child as referred to in 14 FAM 511.3 (1), who is at least age 18, and who, in either case, is on the travel orders of a US citizen Foreign or Civil service employee or military service member permanently assigned to or stationed at a US Foreign Service post or establishment abroad and under Chief of Mission authority.
  2. Member of Household (MOH):  Foreign born spouses, dependent children, unmarried partners of the same and opposite sex, parents, other relatives or adult children declared to the Chief of Mission who fall outside the Department's current legal and statutory definition of EFM.
  3. Ordinarily Resident (OR):  A citizen of the host country or a citizen of another country who has shifted the main residency focus to the host country and has the required work and/or residency permit for employment in country.
  4. Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR):  Typically NORs are US citizen EFMs and family members of FS, GS, and Military Personnel who are on the travel orders and under Chief of Mission authority, or other personnel having diplomatic privileges and immunities.
