The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi is seeking an individual for the temporary position (for three months) of Administrative Assistant in the Community Liaison Office (CLO).

WORK HOURS:       Full-time; 40 hours/week

SALARY:               Not Ordinarily Resident: Grade: FP-7
      Ordinarily Resident: Grade: FSN-7*

BASIC FUNCTIONS OF POSITION

  • • Serve as the advisor and assist the American CLO coordinators in serving the USG employees and their family members in New Delhi.
    • Being the only Foreign Service National (FSN) in CLO, assist the CLO Coordinators in apprising and educating the America employees and family members about the Indian values, culture, traditions and other related subjects.
    • Provide liaison to other organizations outside community, including the American Community Support Association (ACSA), The American Embassy School (AES), Delhi network, and the American Women’s Association (AWA) as well his/her counterparts in the British, Canadian and Australian High Commissions.
    • Organize a range of events and activities for every segment of the Mission community.
    • Responsible for developing and organizing various orientation tours for newcomers and visitors to New Delhi and other areas in India.
    • Organize shopping and excursion trips in and around Delhi.
    • Perform research work related to production of the Mission weekly newsletter “India Ink” with drafts and ideas.
    • Perform miscellaneous duties such as, organize and maintain catalogues and other materials, request brochures and additional information, maintain records, coordinate repair of office equipment etc.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

1. College degree.
2. Minimum two years experience as an Administrative Assistant or related field dealing with the public sales, tourism, public relations or office management.
3. Level IV (fluency) in English and Hindi.
4. Must possess an in-depth knowledge of Delhi and other areas in India as necessary; knowledge of a variety of areas of life in India, culture etc.
5. Knowledge of handling cash.
6. The ability to use personal computer databases and packages, software packages such as MS-Word, EXCEL, ACCESS, Power Point, MS Publisher, e-mail, and CD-ROM applications; ability to type level II (40 wpm).

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA
 
1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy. 
2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
3. Eligible Family Members who currently hold a FMA appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of that appointment.

DEFINITIONS

  1. EFM:  US Citizen spouse or US citizen child as referred to in 14 FAM 511.3 (1), who is at least age 18, and who, in either case, is on the travel orders of a US citizen Foreign or Civil service employee or military service member permanently assigned to or stationed at a US Foreign Service post or establishment abroad and under Chief of Mission authority.
  2. Member of Household (MOH):  Foreign born spouses, dependent children, unmarried partners of the same and opposite sex, parents, other relatives or adult children declared to the Chief of Mission who fall outside the Department's current legal and statutory definition of EFM.
  3. Ordinarily Resident (OR):  A citizen of the host country or a citizen of another country who has shifted the main residency focus to the host country and has the required work and/or residency permit for employment in country.
  4. Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR):  Typically NORs are US citizen EFMs and family members of FS, GS, and Military Personnel who are on the travel orders and under Chief of Mission authority, or other personnel having diplomatic privileges and immunities.
