C-1 Visa: Transit Aliens
Together with the mandatory documents, the following documents may be useful when you apply for your visa:
- Proof of your onward travel arrangements to the foreign destination, for example, airline tickets
- Proof of the purpose of your visit to the foreign destination
- The visa or permit required to enter the country that is your final destination
- Evidence that shows you can fund your entire trip
Further Instructions & Information:
- Issuance of a visa is not guaranteed because you bring supporting documents
- A Consular Officer relies mainly on the oral visa interview to determine eligibility for a visa
- Present only valid documents. Fraud or misrepresentation can result in permanent ineligibility for a U.S. visa
- It is the responsibility of the nonimmigrant visa applicant to prove to the Consular Officer that they do not intend to immigrate

C-1/D Visa: Alien Crewmember in Transit
Together with the mandatory documents, the following documents may be useful when you apply for your visa:
Ship Crew
- Original letter from the shipping company that states the purpose of travel, itinerary and local agent's name and address in the U.S.
- Seaman's book
- CDC card
Airline Crew
- Original letter from the airline
Further Instructions & Information:
- If your spouse/child needs to travel to the U.S., in most circumstances they will need a visitor visa (B-2 Visa)
