NONIMMIGRANT VISAS

Consular Section Access and Security

All visitors to U.S. consular sections must abide by the rules that follow:

  • The following items are not permitted inside a consular section: mobile phones, pagers, tape recorders or players, calculators, cameras, torches, flashlights, radios, digital audio players (for example, i-Pod), compact disc players, cassettes, digital wristwatches, electronic items, smoking items (including cigarettes, lighters, matches, and match boxes), sharp instruments, sealed bags, and sealed envelopes

Please note: consular sections have limited storage space for your electronic items. If possible, please leave your electronic and any large items at home.
  • If you are an immigrant visa applicant, you CAN enter the consular section with your sealed medical report. The medical report MUST remain sealed at all times
  • Bring only the items and documents that relate to your application
  • Carry your items and documents in an unsealed, transparent plastic bag
  • Can I accompany the applicant?  Due to security concerns and space limitations, U.S. consular sections do not permit interested parties such as friends, relatives, attorneys, or business contacts to attend the visa interview of a nonimmigrant visa applicant or intervene on their behalf during the interview.
