 A U.S. Congressional delegation, led by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (second from the left), met with India's External Affairs Minister K. Natwar Singh in New Delhi on January 10, 2005. The delegation also included Senators Mitch McConnell, Mike DeWine and Norm Coleman. U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Science Lee Morin addresses the 92nd Indian National Congress in Ahmedabad on January 5, 2005. Dr. Morin, who has a unique background having been elected an astronaut by NASA in 1996, spoke on Aspects of Space Medicine. Dr. Lee Morin, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Science and Dr. Sharon Hrynkow, Acting Director of the Fogarty International Center at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (first and second from the left) represented the U.S. government at the January 3-7, 2005, 92nd Indian Science Congress in Ahmedabad, India. Chennai Deputy Public Affairs Officer Chris Wurst organized a series of Consulate-wide volunteer opportunities with the Association for India’s Development and the Bhoomika Trust, two highly regarded NGOs. From December 30 to January 2, volunteers throughout the Consulate community helped sort and pack clothing, food items and household items immediately headed for areas which experienced great devastation in Cuddalore, Nagappattinam and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
