Press Releases 2012
TEDxConnaughtPlace
New Delhi | February 10, 2012
The city’s young professionals and change makers will get together at the American Center February 11 to participate in an exciting event aimed at creating a common platform to drive intellectual growth amongst Delhi’s young adults. TEDxConnaughtPlace, which will take place on Saturday, February 11 at 4:00 p.m. at the American Center, is being held in partnership with Youth Ki Awaaz Media, an online platform for young people to express themselves on issues of importance, using new media tools to mobilize young people in participatory journalism.
The eight speakers at TEDxConnaughtPlace come from different lines of work and professional cultures, with different stories to tell. However, what the stories have in common is the struggle to work within a system rife with rules, procedures and social codes, and the accomplishment of bringing change from within. Among the speakers are those that are trying to bridge the digital divide between rural and urban India, as well as those working on social justice, gender, sexuality and human rights issues.
TEDxConnaughtPlace is one of the many ways in which the American Center New Delhi promotes mutual understanding between the peoples of India and the United States. This program presents an opportunity to interact and network with young people in the private, public, non-profit, and artistic worlds, to absorb their ideas and innovations and imagine a future filled with bigger and better possibilities. Youth Ki Awaaz, which has been recognized by United Nations GAID and ICNM with the World Summit Youth Award for pathbreaking online journalism, also has as its objective to be the voice and ears to the large unheard youth community in India.
