The American Center brings Paul Taylor's "Taylor 2" dance ensemble to New Delhi

February 16, 2011 | New Delhi

Taylor 2, the legendary American choreographer Paul Taylor's traveling dance ensemble, will be performing in New Delhi on February 18, after delighting audiences in Mumbai and Chennai earlier in the week.  The company will present three of Paul Taylor's most famous works -- Arden Court, Runes, and Esplanade -- at Siri Fort Auditorium, as the American Center's contribution to the ongoing Shreyasi International Dance Festival.

U.S. Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer described their performances as an opportunity to showcase the best of American culture to audiences across India. "Because of India's wealth of dance traditions, the Indian dance audience is among the most sophisticated in the world.  With Taylor 2, we are presenting the best of American dance, and we know that their performances will inspire and delight audiences here as they have the world over," said Ambassador Roemer.

Paul Taylor is acclaimed for the vibrancy, relevance and power of his dances.  Taylor 2, the maestro's traveling company, was created in 1993 and has traveled the globe many times over, bringing Paul Taylor's ever-burgeoning repertoire to theaters and venues in cultural capitals throughout the world. A six-member company, Taylor 2 offers audiences an experience that, in the words of one critic, "clearly reveals both structure and movement for an eye-opening appreciation of the master's approach…. It's like hearing Mozart played on original instruments, or birds in the woods without traffic noise."?

The troupe's India tour also includes performances in Hyderabad on February 20 and Kolkata on February 25.  Taylor 2, together with the Paul Taylor Dance Company, also toured India in 1997 in celebration of the nation's 50th Anniversary.
