U.S. Air Force Band "Pacific Trends" to Perform in New Delhi March 16, 17

NEW DELHI - "Pacific Trends", the United States Air Force band of the Pacific-Asia, will give two public performances in New Delhi this week.

On Friday March 16 at 7:30 p.m. they will perform at the Seminar Hall of the Indian Institute of Technology, Hauz Khas. This concert is sponsored by the American Center. On Saturday March 17, the group will perform at The India Gate as part of the ongoing platinum jubilee celebrations of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
 
Passes are available at The American Center, 24, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, for the band's performance at the Indian Institute of Technology on March 16.   

The seven member band plays popular hits from the 60's through the new millennium and has a repertoire of top-quality Rock and Roll, R&B, country music and original a cappella arrangements. This multi-talented group reaches across the Far East to perform troop morale and community relations concerts, treating audiences to a taste of American popular culture. The lead vocalist and sole woman member, Staff Sergeant Felita A. Rowe, has even performed with big names like Stevie Wonder and The Miracles.

Formed over sixty years ago, the U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific was established in Florida, with a cadre of one sergeant and two corporals. During World War II, the band was stationed in such places as Bora Bora, French Polynesia, the Solomon Islands and then settled on Luzon Island, Philippines at Clark Air Base.  Finally, in July of 1988 the band relocated to Japan and continued its mission in the Western Pacific from Yokota Air Base.

The band gives about 450 performances a year and has played in Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Burma, Guam, Singapore, Australia, Thailand, Taiwan, the Philippines and Laos, and regularly tours Korea and Japan. As part of their current tour of India, they have already performed in Kolkata and Chennai.
