Yale University Choir Serenades Guests at American Independence Day Celebrations in New Delhi
July 3, 2008
New Delhi – Indians and Americans came together to celebrate 232 years of American independence at the American Center in New Delhi today. More than 150 academics, student leaders, Fulbright scholars, journalists and U.S. Embassy personnel participated in the festivities that included food, drink, and music.
The highlight of the evening was a performance by “The Whiffenpoofs,” Yale University’s all-male a cappella (choral music sung without instrumental accompaniment) singing group. Founded in 1909, the “Whiffs” are one of Yale University’s most celebrated traditions, carrying on almost a century of musical excellence and professional showmanship across America and around the world.
Another attraction at the festivities was "Uncle Sam," who in his stars and stripes outfit and top hat posed for pictures with guests together with life-size cut-outs of President George Bush and the Democratic and Republican Presidential candidates, Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain.
