U.S. Provides Humanitarian Relief to Flood Victims in India

NEW DELHI - U.S. Ambassador David C. Mulford announced today that the United States is providing Rs. 20 lakhs (USD 50,000) for humanitarian relief to the victims of the flooding that has occurred in India during recent weeks, including most recently in the northeastern states of Assam and Bihar.  The contribution will be made to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.

In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Ambassador Mulford expressed his sincere condolences on behalf of the people and government of the United States to the victims of the severe floods which have affected millions of people since the onset of the monsoon in June.

These funds have been made available through the U.S. Ambassador's Humanitarian Relief Fund and are provided by the U.S. Agency for International Development's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance. The Ambassador also indicated that the United States stands ready to provide further support as needed.
