Henry Jardine Takes Over as New U.S. Consul General in Calcutta

CALCUTTA -- Mr. Henry V. Jardine began his assignment as U.S. Consul General in Calcutta, India on August 10, 2005. Previously, he served as the Management Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
He succeeds Mr. George N. Sibley who will join the U.S. Mission in Madagascar after a three-year stay in Calcutta.
Mr. Jardine, who visited Calcutta frequently during his posting in Dhaka, expressed his enthusiasm for his family's return to the "Mahanagar" upon their arrival on August 10. "I am excited about the great changes that have been happening in this region and in the relationship between the United States and India. It is a wonderful time to be in India," Jardine stated.
Mr. Jardine joined the Foreign Service in 1995 and served as a Consular and Political Officer in Dhaka, Bangladesh and Bridgetown, Barbados. Prior to his work with the State Department, Mr. Jardine was an Infantry Captain in the United States Army. During his time in the military, his assignments included service as a Headquarters Company Executive Officer with the 101st Airborne Division and as a Mechanized Infantry Platoon Leader with the 8th Infantry Division in Mainz, Germany.
Mr. Jardine received a B.S. in Foreign Service from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He is joined by his wife Kathleen D. Jardine and his son Thomas.
