"American Road Show" to be held in Kanpur August 29-31

NEW DELHI/KANPUR - An "American Road Show" will be held in Kanpur city August 29-31, 2005, to create increased awareness about the United States.
 
The three-day "celebration of America" has been organized by the American Center in New Delhi to promote people-to-people dialogue and friendship, connect with students and the youth, showcase U.S. society and culture, highlight the growing Indo-U.S. relations and create awareness about U.S. mission programs in India.
 
The Kanpur program will include a wide range of educational and cultural activities, including talks and interactions on education in the U.S. with the city's youth, interactions with business and social leaders, film screenings, paper shows and musical performances.
  
On Monday, August 29, American musician Christine Matovich will present an opera performance at the Jain International School. The U.S. Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) and the American Center will hold presentations on "higher education in the U.S." at the Shahuji University and at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) the same day.
  
On Tuesday, August 30, the Virendra Swarup Public Memorial School will be the venue for an interactive session on American music by Christine Matovich, and the screening of the American environmental film "Crapshoot - The Gamble With Our Wastes." A film show and a talk on American education will be held at the Christ Church College the same day, while USEFI will make a separate presentation on "higher studies in the U.S." at the Sanatan Dharma College. Later in the day, a U.S. official will address the students of IIT on "Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Initiatives."
 
On Wednesday, August 31, there will be a talk and presentation on U.S. education for high school students at Hotel Landmark organized by the Rotary Club, Greater Kanpur. There will also be a presentation on "Higher Education in the U.S." led by USEFI at Harcourt Butler Technical Institute.
         
For all three days, a paper show on "Environmental Action in the U.S." will run at IIT. Two other paper shows -- "Muslims in America" and "Images of America" - will be on view at Hotel Landmark. USEFI, SPAN magazine, the American Information Resource Center and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will have information counters at Hotel Landmark.
