U.S. Announces $ 1 Million in Additional Support for India's Flood Victims

September 5, 2007

NEW DELHI -  The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi announced today that the United States will provide an additional Rs. 4 crore ($1 million) for immediate relief for flood victims in India.

The funds will support water and sanitation, health, and nutrition activities in Bihar where the Government of India has indicated more than 14 million people have been affected by the floods.

This support is in addition to a Rs. 20 lakhs (USD 50,000) contribution by the United States to the Prime Minister's Relief fund earlier this month.  These additional funds are provided by the USAID's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance.

USAID will partner with UNICEF to implement the relief activities under a grant to the organization.
