USEFI Seeks Student Applications For "Plus" Scholarship Program
14 September 2004
NEW DELHI -- The United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) invites applications for the second batch of the U.S. Government sponsored "Partnerships for Learning Undergraduate Studies" (PLUS) program.
Designed for deserving, but socio-economically disadvantaged students, PLUS offers scholarships to pursue two years of undergraduate study in the United States, for a Bachelor of Arts degree from select American colleges and universities. PLUS students will be introduced to American culture, society, and values through field trips, group projects, home stays, community outreach and volunteer activities.
Application details are available in USEFI offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, and on its website: www.fulbright-india.org. The last date for the submission of completed applications is October 4, 2005.
The program is specially targeted at highly motivated students who belong to disadvantaged socio-economic communities and under-served regions in India, but can demonstrate academic excellence, requisite proficiency in English, leadership qualities, and an aptitude for educational and cultural exchange. PLUS endeavors to reach such undergraduate students who traditionally may not have access to U.S. higher education and cultural exchange.
PLUS is an open, merit-based competition. Applicants who meet the program criteria will be interviewed in New Delhi and assessed on their academic ability, motivation, adaptability and leadership qualities. Nominations will be submitted to an independent regional panel in Washington, D.C. for final selection. USEFI will notify the selected students in February 2006.
The PLUS students will begin intensive English language study and academic preparation as early as March 2006, and then enroll in undergraduate studies at a U.S. college or university in August 2006.
