September 23, 2009

New Delhi -- New Delhi music lovers are in for a treat with acclaimed American singer-songwriter Carrie Newcomer performing at the American Center on September 24 and at the India Habitat Center on September 26.

Carrie Newcomer has been described as "a soaring songstress" by Billboard, "a rising star" by The Wall Street Journal, and a "prairie mystic" by The Boston Globe.  One of the definitive voices of the American heartland, she sings about social justice and progressive spirituality.  Her last record, Geography of Light, is a skillfully arranged and performed collection of folk roots tracks with Appalachian and classical influences.

Carrie has toured with Alison Krauss around Europe and the United States. The popular group Nickel Creek recorded Newcomer's song "I Should've Known Better" on their Grammy-winning album This Side.  She tours throughout the United States and abroad, and will be releasing her 12th album, Before and After, on Rounder Records in February 2010.

The singer is touring India under the sponsorship of the U.S. Embassy and will perform concerts in Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram. While in New Delhi, Carrie will also give a performance for children at the Uma Pandey Home and lead a workshop for musicians and teachers at the American Center.
