Young American political leaders sponsored by ACYPL in New DelhiYoung American Political Leaders Visiting India for Non-Partisan Reciprocal Exchange

05 November 2005

NEW DELHI - A group of eight promising young American political leaders sponsored by the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) arrived here yesterday for a non-partisan reciprocal exchange.  ACYPL is a U.S-sponsored NGO promoting mutual understanding of political systems, foreign cultures and ideologies among American and foreign political leaders.

State legislators from Ohio, Wyoming and North Dakota, as well as other young U.S. politicians, are among the bipartisan delegation.  Alumni of ACYPL exchanges, who include members of the national Congress Party, BJP and DMK, are co-sponsoring the delegation.

Each year, ACYPL sends young Americans (age 25-40) on political study tours abroad and organizes reciprocal visits to the United States.  Participants learn diplomatic skills, engage in dialogue on bilateral issues and forge professional relationships through the unique access they receive to the political leadership of the nation they visit.  In 2004, a 7-member non-partisan, Indian delegation visited the U.S. and was sponsored by the ACYPL.  Sites visited in the U.S included Maryland and California.  Since it's founding in 1966 emerging leaders from over ninety countries have participated in ACYPL programs.

Following meetings and representational events in New Delhi November 4-8, the delegation will visit Chennai, Bangalore and Goa for the remainder of their India trip (November 9-16).
