September 1, 2009

New Delhi -- U.S. Ambassador Timothy J. Roemer launched a week-long "Tastes of Southern US Food Festival" today at The Park Hotel in New Delhi with a tasting of southern American cuisine prepared by American chef George Kaslow of the John Folse Culinary Institute in Thibodaux, Louisiana.

The Southern USA Food Festival will feature southern American cuisine in New Delhi restaurants, cooking demonstrations for women's groups, and training events with executive chefs and culinary students. Chef Kaslow will teach Indian culinary students and faculty as well as industry professionals how to prepare uniquely American Cajun, Creole and Tex-Mex cuisine. The healthy and delicious southern foods to be highlighted during the festival include pecan pie, jambalaya, red beans and rice New Orleans style, chicken gumbo and corn grits.

The festival is sponsored by the Southern United States Trade Association (SUSTA), a non-profit agricultural export trade development association comprised of 15 Southern States and Puerto Rico's Departments of Agriculture.
