Fingerprinting and Criminal Background Checks

The Embassy does not offer fingerprinting services. We have traditionally referred private citizens requesting fingerprints to the Delhi Police fingerprint bureau:

You will need to bring your own fingerprinting form or card. The form that is normally recognized is FBI form FD-258. A printable PDF version of this card is available here.

Please contact the police station by telephone before showing up in person. The police may require that you bring a letter explaining why you need fingerprinting. Please email us at acsnd@state.gov and explain why you need to be fingerprinted in India. If the reason is related to U.S. government employment , we can normally provide this letter. 

Because this is not a U.S. Embassy service, we cannot provide pricing information. We suggest that you ask about the price before you do the fingerprinting.

At least one private company operates in the New Delhi area for the specific purpose of recording fingerprints for medical licenses, visas, immigration, police clearance certificate, criminal background checks and criminal history records clearance. The company claims to have experience fingerprinting persons using the approved FBI form FD-258.  The U.S. government does not endorse or certify the quality of this company or service, but includes this information as a courtesy to U.S. citizens.
