Strategic Networking Assistance Program

The Strategic Networking Assistance Program (SNAP) is a pilot program funded by the Department of State's Family Liaison Office (FLO). The goal of the program is to assist spouses of direct-hire USG employees with their search for employment on the host country economy. SNAP offices are located in over 27 embassies and consulates worldwide.

The Local Employment Advisor (LEA), works with the local business community to develop a wide-ranging network of contacts for SNAP job-hunters.

The number one tool in landing a job is networking. SNAP aims to eliminate some of the time you spend making contacts upon arrival in a new location. The program also provides services for spouses, including:

  • job search assistance (discussion of job possibilities, both short and long-term, with listings of possible companies/contacts in your job sector)
  • one-on-one job counseling (self-assessment / identifying your knowledge, skills and abilities)
  • workshops
  • access to published resources
  • briefings on cultural issues in the workplace / resume writing / interviewing skills
  • encouragement during your job search
  • examining educational and volunteer experiences to build your resume

While SNAP participants benefit from working with local and international businesses and organizations, it is a win-win situation for both employee and employer. The benefits for employers are significant:

  • professional candidates are available in country and committed to living in the country for a specific period of time
  • candidates usually have education and training outside of the host country and bring new talent to the job force
  • candidates may speak more than one language
  • candidates are familiar with working in diverse environments
  • no relocation packages are necessary, as candidates already live in the host country

It is important to note that the SNAP office is not a job placement service and the Local Employment Advisor is not a headhunter; LEAs do not find jobs for SNAP participants, but assist them in their job search.

The Local Employment Advisor (LEA),  is available to meet with spouses interested in pursuing local economy employment and can assist in developing an action plan. If you are a candidate for the SNAP program, please call to make an appointment!
