Summer Work and Travel 2010

What's the Summer Work and Travel Program?

The U.S. Embassy invites all Indian students attending university-level studies to consider the Summer Work & Travel program.  Through this exciting program, each year tens of thousands of foreign students from all over the world experience life in the United States.  Students are able to stay in the United States for up to four months and earn money by working in a wide variety of fields.

Students participating in this program arrange their stay in the United States through a recruiting agency that has been accredited by the U.S. Department of State.  The fees charged by recruiting agencies vary significantly.  These agencies are required to provide pre-departure information about housing and employment, prepare a list of job openings, and help participants find a job in the United States.  We suggest that you investigate these recruiting agencies thoroughly before paying them money.  The U.S. Embassy does not recommend or endorse any specific agency.

To qualify for the Summer Work/Travel Program, you must:

  • Speak English well enough to do your proposed job.
  • Meet general age requirements.  Although there are no formal age restrictions for participants, applicants who are not of normal student age will receive greater scrutiny.
  • Show that you are a full-time, serious student in good academic standing seeking an undergraduate degree at an accredited university.
  • Stay no longer than four months in the United States.
  • Return for the new academic session.
  • Demonstrate that you intend to return to India at the end of the summer and go back to school.

The Summer Work/Travel Program is a great cultural exchange experience for many people.  Please make sure you comply with the requirements of the program so you can enjoy your time in the United States and ensure that you will be able to visit again in the future.

Mission India's Summer Work/Travel program dates will be:
May 1 - August 31, 2010.
