Existing Nonimmigrant Visa Appointments Cannot Be Modified to Earlier Date

Effective immediately, persons with an appointment for a nonimmigrant visa interview at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, U.S Consulate General Mumbai, U.S. Consulate General Chennai, or U.S. Consulate General Calcutta will no longer be able to change their appointment to an earlier date without first canceling their current appointment and re-entering the information on their application.  Applicants will still be able to use the original receipt number to make the new appointment.   Those applicants who desire to delay a scheduled visa interview will still be permitted to make a one time change to a later date by using the reschedule/cancellation screen on the VFS website, www.vfs-usa.co.in.   We regret any inconvenience the change may cause, but it is necessary to limit misuse of the appointment system that has created unusually heavy demand on the systems' computer servers to the disadvantage of all applicants.   When demand subsides we hope to be able to reactivate this function.
