Religious Workers - R Visas
What documents do I need to apply for an R-1 visa?
- First, submit all the documents required for a nonimmigrant visa along with the following:
- All R-1 visa applicants must prove that they are working as a minister of religion, or in a religious vocation or occupation, for a bona-fide, non-profit religious organization or denomination that is exempt from taxation
- Proof that you have been a member of the religious organization for at least two years prior to your application
- A contract from the employer in the U.S and proof, such as bank statements, that the employer is able to support the applicant above the poverty line
- Recommendation letters to further support the case of the religious worker
- IRS-supplied proof of the tax-exempt status of the religious organization in the U.S.
- Evidence that you are qualified for the work designated in the U.S.
- Documents showing arrangements for financial support
R-2 visas- for the Spouse and children of religious workers/ Additional documentation:
- Your marriage registration certificate, and an original birth certificate for each child
- Your wedding invitation and wedding ceremony photos - at least 5 and no more than 10 of each
- A good quality photocopy or the original of their spouse's passport - all 36 pages. The copy of the passport submitted should be a clear copy and the photo must be clearly identifiable
- Documents showing arrangements for financial support for the entire family
- The copy of the contract between the employer and the employee in the U.S.
You will need to schedule a personal interview at the Embassy. To arrange an interview, you must log on to www.vfs-usa.co.in. A family can schedule appointments for all family members together in the same slot. When the appointment is confirmed, the applicant will get a return email with in half an hour with the instructions.
