Voice of America

The Voice of America, which first went on the air in 1942, is a multimedia international broadcasting service funded by the U.S. Government through the Broadcasting Board of Governors. VOA broadcasts approximately 1,500 hours of news, information, educational, and cultural programming every week to an estimated worldwide audience of 134 million people. VOA programs are produced and broadcast in 44 languages. Television programs are produced in 24 languages, including Hindi.

VOA in India

The Voice of America's South Asia Bureau, based in New Delhi, is headed by a South Asia Bureau chief. The South Asia Bureau covers news events in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the Maldives. Its correspondent provides voiced reports for VOA's 24-hour Worldwide English service, and scripts are often translated and broadcast by VOA language services. VOA transmits English broadcasts via shortwave to India from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. VOA also transmits morning and evening shows via shortwave to the Indian subcontinent in Bangla, Hindi and Urdu.
